Thought I understood everything
but now I know nothing

Threw away the power of words that I had so carefully developed
and now I am powerlessly stumbling on syllables

I know nothing

Yet people look to me for wisdom

I know nothing

Less precise people with gentle and warm hearts
they must know somehow

because they act

Can’t talk of philosophies
or of God

things that makes the mind spin and the heart beat fast
too fast
taking you to places that don’t exist but that feel as real as the touch of my hand to your cheek

I admire your courage
I respect your discipline

At first I wept for the idleness of your beautiful mind
now I see
you are not idle

philosophies and principles
great minds and beautiful hearts

are not in words and theoretical discussions
but the every day action
of bringing smiles to faces
noticing and participating in life
being close to and touched by
the good in oneself and others
